A new partnership looks to help displaced federal workers continue their public service careers at the state and local levels of government.

Work for America and Grounded Idealist recently announced that the organizations will collaborate to provide free coaching to the more than 9,000 outgoing federal employees currently using Work for America’s Civic Match platform, created to help connect public sector talent (and those looking to break into public service) with government jobs.

According to a Work for America statement, every Civic Match candidate will be eligible for three free coaching sessions provided by Grounded Idealist’s Coaching Collaborative, a national network of credentialed professionals “mobilized to support mission-driven workers impacted by recent federal workforce reductions.”

The availability of this coaching adds a new resource to Civic Match’s suite of support for public sector jobseekers, in addition resume reviews, curated job opportunities and connections to hiring managers, according to Work for America, which says Civic Match has connected more than 9,000 federal workers with state and local government opportunities across 214 cities and 49 states since launching in November 2024. Job seekers can sign up for free coaching here.

“At a moment of deep uncertainty, thousands of public servants are choosing to keep serving,” said Caitlin Lewis, executive director of Work for America, in a statement. “This partnership honors that commitment—and ensures they have the support to move forward with clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose about where they’re needed most.”
