From presidential appointees to community organizers, Work for America wants to help match public sector talent to good government jobs.
A new presidential administration is preparing to take over at the end of January, and many federal workers may soon find themselves in transition. Others who worked on 2024 campaigns at the local, state and federal level will be looking to make their next career move.
Civic Match is a new initiative that Work for America created to help these seasoned public sector professionals (and those seeking to break into public service) find opportunities within local government organizations eager to put their talents to good use.
“As we enter a transition period between administrations, hundreds of talented public servants and aspiring public servants will be changing roles,” Work for America notes on the Civic Match website, saying this moment offers “an incredible opportunity to fill vacancies for essential positions in local governments across the country.”
For job seekers, the application process entails creating a profile in the Civic Match resume bank, where government hiring managers review resumes and send invitations to candidates to apply for specific roles. Applicants receiving an invitation can apply within 24 hours to secure an interview.
Government agencies simply sign up to gain access to the Civic Match resume bank, which has received more than 1,000 resumes to date. Civic Match has formed partnerships with more than 40 cities and states so far, and has brought organizations such as Govern for America, Opportunity@Work and SkillUp, among others, on board as partners for the initiative.
Work for America Executive Director Caitlin Lewis points out that the Civic Match platform directs “top-tier candidates” to public sector HR and talent teams in addition to offering recruitment services for targeted hiring needs. She calls the initiative “a game changer for building strong, mission-driven teams” across American government.
“Now is the time for governments to capture the incredible talent coming out of Washington, and Civic Match is here to make it happen,” said Lewis. “We’re committed to keeping great public servants in public service by connecting them with critical state and local government roles.”
