Select Administration Type

Most PSHRA exams are available for both paper-based and computer-based (online) test administration.

Additionally, PSHRA offers its exams with live remote proctoring to equip agencies with the ability to allow job candidates to test from home.

Select an Assessment

The first step to a successful selection process is to choose an assessment that measures the most important competencies needed for successful performance in the target position.

Police

Police Officer Assessment (POA) Cognitive Series

The POA, Cognitive Series, is PSHRA’s most recently developed entry-level police officer assessment and uses the most modern development approach that relies on a combination of (3) legally and professionally supported sources of validity evidence.

PO-EL 200-NC (TIP) Series with Police Interest Questionnaire

The PO-EL 200-NC (TIP) Series is the first entry-level law enforcement assessment developed by PSHRA and has a long history of successful use by law enforcement agencies. Extensive research has shown that the addition of the Police Interest Questionnaire has reduced or eliminated significant score differences between gender and racial/ethnic groups.

PO-EL 300 (VID) Series with Video Component

The PO-EL 302 (VID) is PSHRA’s sole video-based entry-level police officer assessment. Candidates watch and take notes on a shift briefing and training session prior to watching a series of video vignettes of actual police incidents.

Fire Service

FF-EL 100 Series

The FF-EL 100 Series is the most popular and easiest to administer of PSHRA's entry-level firefighter assessments. Extensive research has shown that the FF-EL 100 Series has no significant differences in assessment scores by gender, and minimal differences in assessment scores between racial/ethnic groups. The format of the assessment also increases standardization between paper-based and computer-based test administrations.

FF-EL 201/301-NC (TIP) Series with Firefighter Interest Questionnaire

The FF-EL 201/301-NC (TIP) Series was provided by PSHRA to help reduce or eliminate significant score differences between gender and racial/ethnic groups. The series accomplishes this through the addition of a non-cognitive (NC) component known as the Firefighter Interest Questionnaire. The FF-EL 201/301-NC (TIP) Series includes a 20-minute session in which candidates must study material from a Test Information Packet (TIP), such as work-related articles, wanted posters, and maps. TIPs are collected after the study period has ended, but before the test booklets are distributed. Some of the multiple-choice items assess how well candidates remember the information they just studied in the TIP.

FF-EL 202/302 (TIP) Series

The FF-EL 202/302 (TIP) Series includes a 20-minute session in which candidates must study material from a Test Information Packet (TIP), such as work-related articles, wanted posters, and maps. TIPs are collected after the study period has ended, but before the test booklets are distributed. Some of the multiple-choice items assess how well candidates remember the information they just studied in the TIP.

Corrections

CO-EL 100 Series

Know which candidates will be successful on the job before you hire them. PSHRA's CO-EL 100 Series assess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics (KSAOs) necessary for success as a new correctional officer. No prior training or experience in assumed of candidates taking any of PSHRA's entry-level assessments.

Public Works

WT-EL 100 Series

The WT-EL 100 Series is PSHRA’s most recently developed entry-level wastewater operator-in-training (OIT) assessment and uses the most modern development approach that relies on a combination of (3) legally and professionally supported sources of validity evidence.

WT-FLS Series

Receive the essential information needed to help ensure only the most highly qualified candidates with the greatest leadership potential are promoted to wastewater first line supervisor in your facility.
