A full-service city on Southern California’s Pacifica Coast with over 2,000 employees, Santa Monica (pop. 93,000) is one of the nation’s pre-eminent urban coastal communities and recently ranked among the top beach cities in the world. Appointed by the City Manager, the Human Resources Director oversees an FY 23-24 operating budget of $6.4 million and is supported by 26 full-time employees.
Job Requirements
As an integral member of the City’s Executive Team, the ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with proven communication and technical skills in public sector human resources and a strength in labor negotiations. The ability to engender trust between HR and the workforce coupled with a track record of establishing and maintaining productive and positive relationships with labor groups is critical to success. A background that reflects a history of modernizing civil service practices and instilling a respectful workplace culture is desired. Competitive candidates will have five years of progressively responsible HR experience, with three recent years in supervision and a Bachelor’s degree.
Salary goes up to $248,700 annually with a 2% salary increase effective July 1, 2024, DOQE, supplemented by attractive benefits.
