Job Description

With a culturally diverse population of nearly 100,000 residents, approximately 30,000 housing units (70% single family homes), over 2,000 new housing units being built, the potential of a large-scale public-private partnership for development of the City Hall campus, and the redevelopment of a 157-acre landfill site, the City of Carson is positioned for an exciting and prosperous future. Conveniently adjacent to 4 major southern California freeways (Interstates 405, 110, 710, and State Route 91), Carson is home of California State University Dominguez Hills, a Venue City for 8 events in the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games; host of several 2026 FIFA World Cup activities; and home of the LA Galaxy, Velo Sports Center (largest indoor cycling track in America) and Porsche Experience Center.

Job Requirements

Under the leadership of a dynamic and future-focused City Manager, the Carson executive team is comprised of top talent in the industry looking to accomplish transformational projects. With a stable, supportive and collaborative City Council, the City is poised to welcome and seeks a new long-term Director of Human Resources and Risk Management.

The typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications is with a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Finance or a closely related field and at least five (5) years of professional experience in Human Resources activities, preferably including at least one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. The salary range is $212,305 to $270,961 with placement based on experience and qualifications.  The City provides an excellent benefit package.
