Allegheny County Opens Job Portal Geared Toward Federal Employees

On March 5, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order that his administration heralded as the start of an aggressive effort to recruit former federal employees into Pennsylvania’s government workforce.

The following day, Pennsylvania’s Allegheny County launched its own similar effort at a more local level, opening a job portal for federal workers interested in working for the county, located in the Pittsburgh region of the state.

In a statement on the portal’s home page, Allegheny County Manager John Fournier invited applicants to “take the first step” toward their next career opportunity, and expressed his appreciation to candidates for “spending some of your valuable time learning about our county.

“If you are a current or former federal government employee looking to utilize your background in a different professional environment,” he added, “we would be excited to help guide you to positions that might be just what you’re looking for.”

Fournier told Pittsburgh-based WTAE TV that Allegheny County currently has more than 1,000 job openings for full- and part-time positions across its 20 departments and divisions. Fournier also shared a message for federal employees.

“If they’re not welcome at the federal government, they’re welcome in Allegheny County,” he said. “There are federal employees in Washington, D.C., and all over the country reevaluating their professional options right now. We want them to know that Allegheny County is a great place to live and work.”
