Tanya Aleshire’s career began in customer service.
As she gradually advanced into supervisory and management roles, her natural talents began to reveal themselves.
“Along the way, I discovered my natural ability to lead, and gained valuable experience in human resources,” says Aleshire, who is currently a deputy city clerk and HR administrator with the Town of Williams, Ariz.
Aleshire is a native of the northern Arizona city, graduating high school in Williams and attending DeVry University before relocating to Portland, Ore. in 2000, when her husband had an opportunity work for his family’s business.
In Oregon, Aleshire began a 19-year career with Exel Direct, a home delivery business that was eventually acquired by Ryder Systems Inc.
While with the organization, Aleshire advanced from a customer service representative to warehouse operations supervisor and ultimately to senior analyst in 2013.
Each of those roles ultimately helped lead her toward her current role with the Town of Williams.
As a warehouse operations supervisor, for instance, Aleshire’s responsibilities included employee onboarding, HR functions, billing, scheduling and overseeing daily warehouse operations. As a senior analyst, she trained employees on various computer systems, conducting system testing, performing warehouse audits and coordinating new client onboarding.
Aleshire and her family returned to her hometown in 2015, to be closer to family. She stayed with Ryder for another five years, when she opted to pursue opportunities “that required less travel and allowed me to spend more time at home,” she says.
Aleshire took a role as an accounting clerk for a local propane company before joining the City of Williams in a similar role in 2023.
“I joined the City as an accounting clerk and later transitioned into human resources when a position became available,” says Aleshire. “This role aligned more closely with my previous experience and allowed me to pursue work I truly enjoy.”
In her current position, Aleshire coordinates onboarding documentation and benefits enrollment for new employees, in addition to assisting with FMLA and short-term disability processing. She also supports employees and supervisors in resolving workplace conflicts, and helps organize employee events and recognition activities, which Aleshire calls “one of the most rewarding aspects of my role.”
With the City of Williams, “I have the privilege of supporting my fellow employees and serving the City in the community where I was raised,” she says.
A PSHRA member since July 2026, Aleshire first learned of the organization through her HR director with the City of Williams, who was already a member and encouraged her to join.
“I’m grateful for her guidance and support, as PSHRA has provided valuable classes and training opportunities that have helped me grow professionally,” says Aleshire, who is currently working toward earning certification through PSHRA.
“I hope that I can continue to provide excellent service to the City I live in,” she adds, “as well as help my peers and colleagues with day-to-day challenges until I am ready to retire.”
